Ethereum addresses can now be linked to the .xyz domain
Ethereum Name Service (ENS) users can now use the .xyz domain to link it to their wallets, smart contracts, and other services. ENS developer Nick Johnson wrote about this in his blog.
According to him, the opening of public access to the function was preceded by a period of testing and development, which made it possible to add “its support on the main network through ENS”.
Interested users can rent a domain name through any domain name registrar and use it as they previously could use .eth domains.
EasyDNS registrar has added simplified functionality to its service specifically for Ethereum users, but Johnson claims that users can use any other service available to them to link their wallets and smart contracts to the .xyz domain..
“Initially we are running ENS support on .xyz for a test drive, but the best part is that we don’t need the cooperation or permission of each domain name system. As soon as we get a chance to see how everything works, we plan to launch support for all other top-level domains that support the required functions – and that’s almost all of them, ”Johnson explained..
ENS allows Ethereum users to use “human-readable names” instead of long wallet or service addresses, making the process of transferring transactions and using smart contracts easier.
The .xyz domain is the second top-level domain to be supported in ENS. In early August, the service announced that Ethereum users were able to use the .eth domain..
