Ripple presented a solution to increase the decentralization of its own network
Cryptocurrency startup Ripple has announced that representatives of its research department have prepared two scientific papers related to the consensus protocol in the XRP ledger.
The authors of the study published the results of their work for public scrutiny, hoping that this step will encourage other developers to further research in this direction..
As noted by Ripple CTO Stefan Thomas, one of the documents touches on the XRP consensus algorithm and is called “Analysis of the consensus protocol in the XRP ledger” [PDF].
Ripple emphasizes that this paper presented the results of “the analysis of the algorithm obtained earlier, which officially proves that the algorithm provides reliability (excludes forks) and viability in the currently planned stages of decentralization”.
Describing the second paper, Cobalt: BFT Governance in Open Networks, the Ripple team explains: “The second paper introduces Cobalt, a new asynchronous consensus algorithm that will enhance the existing consensus protocol in the XRP ledger, allowing for more diverse UNLs (note – a unique list of Ripple nodes) “.
“Maintaining efforts to improve decentralization is key to unlocking the full potential of the XRP ledger. We are proud to present our achievements, being the only public blockchain in which transactions have not been canceled over 5 years of existence, there is no censorship or serious operational difficulties, “they add..
Previously, users have repeatedly criticized Ripple for the lack of decentralization of its network, claiming that in fact the startup’s blockchain is a centralized network, the keys to which are in the hands of the company’s management..
